NEW YORK– Following her strong performances at La Salle and Connecticut this past week, freshman Darby Goodwin (Jupiter, Fla./ The Pine School / Saint Andrews Swimming) was named BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Female Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Goodwin picked up her first collegiate win against La Salle last Wednesday with a 56.86 time in the 100 butterfly. She would also place second in the 100 free with a time of 53.40 just 18 hundredths of a second from first place. The women would go on to beat the Explorers 221-142.
This past Saturday at UConn is where Goodwin had breakthrough performance in the pool.
She picked gold as part of the Villanova 400-yard medley relay team, starting the Wildcats out strong with a 26.91 first leg as ‘Nova edged out UConn to take first with a time of 3:49.40.
Goodwin would then place first in the 100 back with a time of 56.55. She would capture first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.65, and had a strong showing in the 200 back. Goodwin finished the 200 back with a time of 2.02.25 just 10 hundredths of a second behind first place winner Annika Grewal.
The Wildcat women would beat out their longtime rivals from Storrs 175-152.
The Villanova Swimming and Diving Teams will return to action next Friday, November 6 as they travel to Piscataway, N.J. for the BIG EAST/BIG Ten Quad Meet hosted by the Rutgers University.
