CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Members of the FGCU diving team traveled to Coral Springs, Fla. – the winter training home of the Clemson diving team from Dec. 10-16 – and suffered a 30-8 loss in its first ever dual against the Tigers Wednesday afternoon at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex.

The Eagles were once again led by Ashley Wright (Port St. Lucie. Fla./Indian River State/Lincoln Academy) as she finished second in the one-meter dive and seventh in the three-meter event. Her total of 262.35 off the low dive came up less than three points shy of surpassing the NCAA Zone Diving Standard for the third time in the event this season, while she tallied 227.50 points off the high dive.

“It was good to get back out there and not only compete again after some time off, but also add a wrinkle to our typical winter training,” said FGCU diving coach David Boyko. “It was also great to be able to compete against some of the same competition we will see at NCAA Zones. I thought Ashely bounced back well from missing a dive in the three-meter and was able to place second in the one-meter.”

Teammate Mikaila Buening (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community HS) placed second among FGCU divers in both events while finishing ninth overall in the three-meter and 11th in the one-meter. Her total of 222.08 off the high dive was good for a new season-best effort, while she also earned 212.18 points in the low dive. Freshman Natalie Keffer (San Gabriel, Calif./Gabrielino HS) finished 12th in both events and came up just shy of her season bests with a one-meter total of 186.75 and three-meter score of 195.53. Additionally, Stevie Meyerson (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS) and Margot Kessler (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton Community HS) each tallied season-best scores in the three-meter dive with totals of 183.38 and 167.10, respectively.
