TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State swimming and diving teams will open the 2015 season on Friday at the Pinch-A-Penny All-Florida Invitational, which will be hosted by the University of Florida at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
In addition to the host team and FSU, the meet will also feature Miami, Nova Southeastern, Florida Gulf Coast and Towson.
“It’s good to get in the thick of our training,” FSU head coach Frank Bradley said. “It will be very interesting to see, especially for the freshmen. We’re doing well in the pool and in the weight room and it’s just time to let them race this weekend.”
The three-day invite will be a prelim-final meet with the top 16 in each event with the exception of relays and the 1650 free will advance to finals.
Prelims on Friday will begin at 10 a.m. with finals following at 7 p.m. and athletes will compete in the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 400 medley relay.
Saturday’s races will start at 9 a.m. and include the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 800 free relay. Finals will start at 4 p.m.
The meet will close on Sunday with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay.
The divers will be contesting in 1-meter and 3-meter diving on Friday and Saturday.
“This sets us up for the end of the season with ACC’s and NCAA’s” Bradley said. “It takes you through the up’s and down’s of a three-day meet. All of these kids have been to a meet like this but we walk them through each session so nothing is a surprise. We’re excited to get things going.”
