NCAA Final Day: Florida Gators Finish 3rd Overall

On the NCAA Final Day competition, swimmers from Florida once again saw an epic night. Particularly, Ryan Murphy, Caeleb Dressel and Joseph Schooling all set more records and were honored by sharing the “Swimmer of the Meet” honors.

1650 Free

University of Florida

The Gators had several swimmers in the Consolation final: Ben Lawless who touched in 9th with a time of 14:48.63, Mitch D’Arrigo who went 14:49.65 and placed 11th, and Arthur Frayler who placed 15th with a time of 14.52.77.

Swimmers from Florida at Other Schools

AAC/Jesuit’s Chris Swanson (UPENN) swam an exciting mile, biding his time until the last length of the pool to surge forward for the win, surprising everyone. He touched in at 14.31.54. Awesome!

200 Backstroke

Corey Main made the Consolation final and went 1:41.36 to finish 8th.

Swimmers from Florida at Other Schools

California’s Ryan Murphy (BSS) once again shocked the swim world by setting yet another American Record, US Open Record, and NCAA Record in the 200 Backstroke. Rocketing underwater powerfully off each wall, Ryan went out in a 46.36 to then come home in 1:35.73!

Fast Lane’s Grigory Tarasevich brought a great Consolations win for Louisville by going 1:39.81.

100 Free

Once again, Caeleb Dressel made history by setting a new American Record, US Open Record, and NCAA Record by going a blazing 40.46 in the 100 Free.

200 Butterfly

The Gators had Jan Switkowski was the “Consol King” by winning the B Final in a time of 1:41.40.

Swimmer from Florida at Other Schools

Joseph Schooling (BSS) set a new US Open Record and NCAA Record in the 200 Fly by going 1:37.97. Joseph has been consistently strong all week and has truly made history through his strength, perseverance, and talent.

Platform Diving

Florida State University

The Seminoles had Dylan Grisell compete in the finals of the platform diving. Dylan scored 355.75 points to take 7th overall.

400 Free Relay

The Gators were in a must-finish-well situation to maintain their podium finish in the final event of the meet. Fortunately, the Gator men delivered with a 3rd place finish. Caeleb Dressel led off to gain a quick lead (40.86), Corey Main followed (42.06), Mark Szaranek was next (42.37), and then the anchor was Jan Switkoski (41.87).

Swimmers from Florida at Other Schools

Joseph Schooling (BSS) helped Texas gain the second place by swimming a 41.97 in the second leg.

Ryan Murphy (BSS) went a 41.56 but unfortunately his relay was DQ’d.

Tristan Sanders (PYP) helped Michigan win the Consolation final by going 42.69.

Highlander’s Sean Duggan went a 43.05 to help his team place 10th overall.

Grigory Tarasevich swam a 43.95 to deliver a 13th place overall for Louisville.

Final Standings

Florida placed 3rd overall with 334 points.

University of Miami placed 22nd with 31 points (And they don’t even have a swim team! Only Divers!)

Florida State placed 31st with 12 points.
