Deemed the NCAA Division II “Meet of the Week” by Swimming World Magazine, that’s exactly what it turned out to be for both the Nova Southeastern University men’s and women’s swim teams as they cruised to a pair of wins over the Tampa Spartans on Saturday at the UT Aquatic Center. The No. 2 Sharks men down the No. 12 Spartans 169-93, while the Sharks’ No. 4 women’s team won by a landslide score of 181-81.

Of the 28 events scheduled in the meet, the NSU teams won 27 of them with the women winning 14 out of 14 and the men topping UT 13 out of 14 events. The only event lost for the Sharks was in the men’s 100 butterfly. Once again, the Sharks posted six additional NCAA provisional qualifying times and narrowly missed a seventh in the men’s 200 free relay by just .02 seconds. Both Franco Lupoli and Emma Wahlstrom secured two each.

Swimming his best time all season in the 1000 freestyle, Lupoli provisionally qualified with a time of 9:34.10 as well as a provisional time of 4:35.98 in the 500 freestyle. Swimming season personal best in her two provisional qualifying events, Wahlstrom topped the women’s 100 and 200 freestyle events with times of 51.35 and 1:50.96 respectively.

Malin Westman joined her teammates with a pair of NCAA provisional qualifying times as well. Swimming a personal season best in both events, Westman provisionally qualified in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with times of 1:03.88 and 2:17.69.

Geogina Allin and Madison Yelle claimed the top two spots in the women’s 1000 freestyle with season personal best times of 10:32.47 and 10:33.73, while Eddie Zacka finished second on the men’s side with a personal best of 9:48.95 in the same event. Although Anton Lobanov claimed the top position in the men’s 100 and 200 breaststroke events, his teammates Cory Klemm and Thomas Rutherford posted personal bests this season in the concurrent events. Klemm swim a time of 59.23 in the 100, while Rutherford swam a time of 2:12.59 in the 200.

Competing for the first time in the men’s 200 butterfly, Stephen Klein won the event with a season best time of 1:54.31, but he also added another season best time of 1:57.26 in the men’s 200 individual medley. Adding to the mix of season best times, Sydney Panzarino swam a time of 24.16 to win the women’s 50 freestyle, Allin added her second personal best in the women’s 500 freestyle with a time of 5:08.62 and Courtney DeVeny swam a season best in the women’s 200 individual medley at 2:09.00.

The women’s relay teams also continued to excel posting season best times in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. Wahlstrom, Westman, DeVeny and Panzarino combined for a time of 1:46.52 in the medley relay, while Wahlstrom, Panzarino Caroline Oster and Brooke Munion combined for a season best time of 1:37.16 in the freestyle relay.

The Sharks will now have approximately a month before they return to action, but will compete in the Spartan Invitational Dec. 16 through Dec. 19 hosted by Tampa in Clearwater, Fla.
